Doug High is an Emmy Award-winning documentary producer, a veteran television news anchor, a historian, and a retired United States Navy Commander with more than three decades in multimedia. His documentary work has been distributed nationally on PBS and the Sundance Channel.
For the past seventeen years, Doug has served as senior news anchor for the ABC affiliate in Lexington, Kentucky, where he lead the evening news team at WTVQ-TV ABC 36. Earlier in his tenure, he and his wife Lyssa were Kentucky's only—and celebrated—husband-and-wife anchor team, co-anchoring the 9 a.m. and noon broadcasts for four years.
A four-time Emmy-nominated producer, director, and program host, Doug won the award in 2018 for writing, producing, and directing the PBS documentary on Lexington's notorious Victorian-era madam, "Belle Brezing and the Gilded Age of the Bluegrass."
His military career spans twenty-three years in the U.S. Navy Reserve, including service as the 2017 media director for NATO's television and radio assets in Afghanistan.
Beyond broadcasting, Doug has served as Executive Director of the Kentucky Historical Society Foundation, has been a flight ambassador for Kentucky's veteran Honor Flights to Washington, D.C., and serves on William and Elizabeth Shatner's nonprofit board supporting veterans and their families through equine therapy.
Doug and Elizabeth have been friends and creative collaborators for seventeen years. The two served together in 2009 off the west coast of Africa, aboard USS Nashville (LPD-13), for the CNO-mandated diplomatic and cross-training mission Africa Partnership Station. Then-Lieutenant High was the senior public affairs officer, leading the multimedia teams documenting the mission, while Liz served as a civilian analyst and consultant for the Navy. The months they spent together in Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, and Senegal forged a lifelong friendship—and a bond that anchors the Savage City leadership team.
